I am somewhat indifferent about Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson but I will tell you which celebrity death did give me pause today. The one you probably didn’t hear about.
SKY SAXON, lead singer and bassist of seminal garage rockers The Seeds died this morning here in Austin. I first heard The Seeds via Mystery Brother, who was a big fan. Pushin’ Too Hard was, is and will always be one of my favorite songs. So here’s to Sky and the rest of them…and let’s all pray that Madonna is next.

That’s awesome. You’re so mean that we must be related.
And that’s a great song, which I had never heard before.

I was going to write about that…but I found a video (with Casey Kasem as host) for another song that I like! Sky Saxon CANNOT lip sync!

Casey is the host on this vid, too! It’s from his short-lived music show, “Shebang!”, which I believe was local to the Palm Springs, CA area. And no, Sky couldn’t lip sync. I also like that despite the fact that he’s playing bass, the camera zooms in on him for a closeup during the guitar solo. Oops.

Casey Kasem. That takes me back.
I don’t know why Michael’s death was so “shocking” because he hasn’t been well for a long time – but the person who compared it to JFK’s death almost made me throw a big ceramic ashtray through the television. (No, I don’t smoke, but that ashtray is a WMD)

I do love your parting thought, which made my daughter ask what I was reading.

I leave civilization and all Celebrageddon breaks loose. Where was I when I heard MJ died? (Sorry CC) I was scantily clad from swimming in a river out in nature, wearing a perpetually wet bandanna on my head by this point, disguising an actual, but forbidden, wood log with a pyramid of hardwood nuggets when my 14 year-old yelled from her tent, “Michael Jackson died.” It was very surreal. I suppose someone who cared about her greatly thought to text message her that tidbit. We thought it was a joke b/c at the end of the message someone had texted, “Pass it on.” It’s an interesting conversation to have to surmise amidst 4 14 year-old’s who can be called to verify such information.

Freida, my niece was on the last day of her jaunt to Africa and even SHE heard about MJ’s death. Why did I not know that he was so popular? (Seriously.) I had sort of relegated him to “creepy has-been” status in my own sphere… Glad you survived the camping trip, btw.
